El 4 de octubre de 1946 se fundó la Universidad Católica de Santo Tomás de Villanueva, convirtiéndose en la primera universidad privada abierta en Cuba. A cargo de los padres agustinos, la institución creció rápidamente hasta su clausura tras la llegada del comunismo al país. En el exilio, los padres agustinos fundaron St. Thomas University en el sur de la Florida, donde se mantiene viva la tradición educacional católica iniciada en Cuba hace casi ocho décadas.

Catholic University of Saint Thomas of Villanova

The Catholic University of Saint Thomas of Villanova was established on October 4, 1946, becoming the first private university in Cuba. Founded by the Augustinian friars, the institution grew rapidly until its closure following the arrival of communism in the country. In exile, the Augustinian friars founded St. Thomas University in South Florida, where the Catholic educational tradition that began in Cuba nearly eight decades ago remains alive.
