Este mes se cumple el 90 aniversario del natalicio de las reconocidas y queridas artistas plásticas cubanas Haydée y Sahara Scull. Nacidas en La Habana el 5 de diciembre de 1931, las hermanas gemelas estudiaron pintura y escultura en la Escuela de Bellas Artes de San Alejandro. En 1969, Haydée partió al exilio, reuniéndose con su hijo, Michael Blandino, con quien trabajó durante muchos años en su estudio de Miami Beach. Sahara la acompañó en el exilio en 1973. Juntas, las Hermanas Scull se convirtieron en un símbolo emblemático y pintoresco del exilio cubano, caracterizadas por su colorido vestuario y sus obras folclóricas hechas en tercera dimensión. Haydée falleció el 23 de octubre de 2007, y Sahara falleció poco después, el 31 de mayo de 2008. Remembering the Scull Sisters

This month marks the 90th anniversary of the birth of renowned and beloved artists Haydée and Sahara Scull. Born in Havana on December 5, 1931, the twin sisters studied painting and sculpture at the San Alejandro School of Fine Arts. In 1969, Haydée went into exile, reuniting with her son, Michael Blandino, with whom she worked for many years at their studio in Miami Beach. Sahara joined her in 1973. Together, the Scull Sisters became an iconic and picturesque symbol of the Cuban exile community, known for their colorful attire and three-dimensional paintings. Haydée passed away on October 23, 2007, and Sahara passed away a short time later, on May 31, 2008. Today, their paintings continue to decorate homes, art galleries, offices, and restaurants, and the memory of the picturesque Cuban sisters remains alive with those who met her in exile.
