En días recientes se conmemoró el centenario del natalicio del reconocido pintor cubanoamericano Emilio Sánchez Fonts. Natural de Camagüey, Sánchez nació el 10 de junio de 1921, y en 1944 se mudó a Nueva York, donde estudió en el Art Students League y vivió hasta su fallecimiento en 1999. Su arte brinda una combinación de lo abstracto y lo familiar, marcado por un espíritu netamente cubano. Entre los elementos más característicos de sus cuadros figuran ventanas entreabiertas, las que invitan al publicó a que se asome para ver lo que está del otro lado. Este mes, en honor a su centenario, el Servicio Postal de los Estados Unidos (USPS) emitió una serie de sellos de correo con varias de sus emblemáticas ventanas.

The centennial of the birth of Cuban-American painter Emilio Sánchez Fonts took place in recent days. A native of Camagüey, Sánchez was born on June 10, 1921, and in 1944 he moved to New York, where he studied at the Art Students League and lived until his passing in 1999. His art offers a combination of the abstract and the familiar, marked by an authentically Cuban spirit. Among the most prominent elements of his paintings are half-opened Windows, which invite the public to peek through them to see what is on the other side. This month, in honor of his centennial, the United States Postal Service (USPS) issued a series of postage stamps featuring several of his iconic windows.
