Este año se conmemora el centenario del natalicio del cantante cubano Rolando Laserie. Nacido en Mata, Las Villas el 27 de agosto de 1923, Laserie comenzó en la música a temprana edad. Formó parte de la Banda Gigante de Benny Moré y luego obtuvo fama como solista. Partió al exilio y recorrió América Latina con su música. Laserie falleció en Coral Gables, Florida el 22 de noviembre de 1998, pero su música aún vive en el recuerdo de generaciones de cubanos y cubanoamericanos.

This year marks the centennial of the birth of Cuban singer Rolando Laserie. Born in Mata, Las Villas on August 23, 1923, Laserie began his musical career at an early age. Later, he joined Benny Moré’s Banda Gigante (Giant Band) and later became famous as a soloist. He went into exile and toured Latin America with his music. Laserie passed away in Coral Gables, Florida on November 23, 1998, but his music still lives in the memory of different generations of Cubans and Cuban-Americans.
