Días antes de su 97 cumpleaños, el exilio cubano recibió la triste noticia del fallecimiento de la reconocida escritora cubana Delia Fiallo. Nacida en La Habana el 4 de julio de 1924 y criada en Los Palacios, Pinar del Río, Fiallo se graduó de Filosofía y Letras en la Universidad de La Habana en 1948, y recibió el premio internacional de cuento Hernández Catá por El otro. Comenzó escribiendo radionovelas en La Habana en 1949, siendo su primera adaptación la telenovela Soraya, emitida en Cuba en 1957. Partió al exilio con su familia en diciembre de 1966 en los Vuelos de la Libertad, y fue en el exilio donde cosechó sus éxitos más grandes. Sus obras televisivas se han producido principalmente en México, Venezuela, Argentina, Perú, Puerto Rico, Brasil y Estados Unidos. Entre sus novelas mas famosas se encuentran Cristal, Topacio, Lucecita, Leonela, Marielena, Guadalupe, Kassandra, Morelia, Esmeralda, La Zulianita, Peregrina, Una muchacha llamada Milagro, María Emilia y Soledad. Fiallo falleció en Coral Gables, Florida el 29 de junio de 2021, dejando el nombre de Cuba libre bien alto.

FAREWELL TO DELIA FIALLO, “THE MOTHER OF TELENOVELAS”

Just days before her 97th birthday, the Cuban exile community received the sad news of the passing of renowned Cuban writer Delia Fiallo. Born in Havana on July 4, 1924 and raised in Los Palacios, Pinar del Río, Fiallo received a degree in Philosophy and Letters from the University of Havana in 1948 and was awarded the Hernández Catá international prize for storytelling for The Other. She began writing novels for radio in Havana in 1949, with her first adaptation being the soap opera Soraya, which aired in Cuba in 1957. She went into exile with her family in December 1966 in the Freedom Flights, and it was in exile where she found her greatest success. Her television works have been produced primarily in Mexico, Venezuela, Argentina, Peru, Puerto Rico, Brazil and the United States. Among her most famous soap operas are Cristal, Topacio, Lucecita, Leonela, Marielena, Guadalupe, Kassandra, Morelia, Esmeralda, La Zulianita, Peregrina, Una muchacha llamada Milagro, María Emilia y Soledad. Fiallo passed away in Coral Gables, Florida on June 29, 2021, having exalted the name of a free Cuba.
