Las artes del exilio cubano están de luto con la noticia del fallecimiento del reconocido actor de teatro Alfonso Cremata. Nacido en La Habana el 4 de abril de 1946, Cremata llegó al exilio a temprana edad, el 19 de agosto de 1962. Tras estudiar arquitectura brevemente, Cremata descubrió su verdadera pasión: el teatro. Junto con el también recordado actor cubano Salvador Ugarte fundó el Teatro Las Máscaras, con dos locales, marcando así una pauta indeleble en el ambiente cultural de Miami y del exilio cubano. Sus actuaciones en producciones cómicas llevaron a que fuesen llamados “Los Reyes de la Risa”. Cremata también escribió varias radionovelas y telenovelas mexicanas para Televisa, entre ellas Valentina, La Adúltera, Lo que el Cielo no perdona, El hombre que vino del mar y Un rostro en el espejo. Con su partida el pasado 5 de enero, cierra un capítulo importante en el escenario artístico del exilio.

Farewell to Alfonso Cremata (1946-2022)

The arts in the Cuban exile community are in mourning with the news of the passing of renowned theater actor Alfonso Cremata. Born in Havana on April 4, 1946, Cremata arrived in exile at an early age, on August 19, 1962. After briefly studying architecture, Cremata discovered his true calling: theater. Along with the also remembered Cuban actor Salvador Ugarte, he founded the Las Mascaras Theater, with two locations, marking an indelible period in the cultural atmosphere of Miami and the Cuban exile community. Their roles in comedic productions led them to be dubbed “The Kings of Laughter”. Cremata also wrote several novellas for radio and television for Mexico’s Televisa, including Valentina, The Adulteress, What Heaven Does Not Forgive, The Man Who Came from the Sea, and A Face in the Mirror. With his passing on January 5th, an important chapter in the Cuban exile community’s artistic scene comes to a close.
