Desde Madrid, España recibimos la triste noticia del fallecimiento del destacado pintor y escultor cubano Waldo Díaz-Balart, conocido artísticamente como Waldo Balart. Nacido el 10 de febrero de 1931 en Banes, Cuba, Balart fue reconocido por sus contribuciones al arte concreto y su estilo de abstracción geométrica. A lo largo de su carrera, sus obras fueron exhibidas en prestigiosos museos y colecciones permanentes en todo el mundo, incluyendo el Museo de Arte Moderno (MoMA) en Nueva York, el Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía en Madrid, el Mondriaan House en Amersfoort, Países Bajos, y el Museo de Arte Moderno en Hünfeld, Alemania. Además de su carrera artística, Balart fue amigo cercano de Andy Warhol y participó en algunas de sus películas, como “The Life of Juanita Castro” (1965) y “The Loves of Ondine” (1968). Balart falleció en Madrid el 5 de febrero de 2025, dejando un gran legado artístico.

From Madrid, Spain we received the sad news of the passing of renowned Cuban painter and sculptor Waldo Díaz-Balart, artistically known as Waldo Balart. Born on February 10, 1931, in Banes, Cuba, Balart was recognized for his contributions to concrete art and his style of geometric abstraction. Throughout his career, his works were exhibited in prestigious museums and permanent collections around the world, including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia in Madrid, the Mondriaan House in Amersfoort, the Netherlands, and the Museum of Modern Art in Hünfeld, Germany. In addition to his artistic career, Balart was close friends with Andy Warhol and participated in some of his films, such as “The Life of Juanita Castro” (1965) and “The Loves of Ondine” (1968).
