El 17 de septiembre de 1961, 31 sacerdotes y religiosos fueron expulsados de Cuba por el régimen castrista a bordo del vapor español Covadonga. La ardua travesía los llevó a diferentes rincones de la Tierra, convirtiéndolos en símbolo de la represión antirreligiosa del régimen comunista. Entre los pasajeros más famosos del Covadonga se encontraban Mons. Eduardo Boza Masvidal y Mons. Agustín Román.
The end of religious freedom in Cuba
On September 17, 1961, 131 priests and other religious figures were expelled from Cuba by the Castro regime aboard the Spanish steamship Covadonga. The difficult journey took them to different corners of the Earth, turning them into a symbol of the Communist regime’s antireligious repression. Among the Covadonga’s most famous passengers were Msgr. Eduardo Boza Masvidal and Msgr. Agustín Román.
