En el sur del condado Miami-Dade se encuentra Camp Matecumbe. En este campamento vivieron cientos de niños cubanos que fueron enviados a los Estados Unidos por sus padres durante la Operación Pedro Pan para rescatarlos del comunismo imperante en Cuba. Aún permanecen los edificios que refugiaron a los niños hace más de 50 años. Uno de estos edificios fue una capilla muy sencilla. En sus paredes aún están las imágenes del Vía Crucis, escenas artísticas que representan la pasión, muerte y resurrección de Jesucristo y relatan la historia de la Semana Santa. Tras más de medio siglo, este Vía Crucis nos recuerda de la renovación y el renacimiento que nos brindan la fe y la esperanza a pesar del dolor y el sufrimiento.

The Stations of the Cross at Camp Matecumbe

Camp Matecumbe is located in southern Miami-Dade County. In this camp lived hundreds of Cuban children that were sent to the United States by their parents during Operation Pedro Pan in order to rescue them from communism on Cuba. The buildings in which these children found refuge more than 50 years ago still stand. One of these buildings was a very simple chapel. On its wall are the images of the Stations of the Cross, artistic scenes that represent Jesus Christ’s passion, death, and resurrection and relate the history of Holy Week. Following more than half a century, these Stations of the Cross remind us of the renewal and rebirth that faith and hope bring us in spite of pain and suffering.
