Recientemente recibimos la triste noticia del fallecimiento del querido y reconocido actor y director cubano Mario Ernesto Sánchez. Nació en San Antonio de las Vegas, Cuba, el 10 de enero de 1947 y emigró a los Estados Unidos durante la Operación Pedro Pan. En 1979, fundó el Teatro Avante en Miami, al igual que el Festival Internacional de Teatro Hispano de Miami, que ha sido un pilar en la promoción del teatro hispano en los Estados Unidos. Además de su trabajo en el teatro, tuvo varios papeles en la televisión y el cine, incluyendo apariciones en la serie “Miami Vice” y en películas como “Invasion U.S.A.” (1985) y “The Specialist” (1994). We recently received the sad news of the death of the beloved and renowned Cuban actor and director Mario Ernesto Sánchez. He was born in San Antonio de las Vegas, Cuba, on January 10, 1947, and immigrated to the United States during Operation Pedro Pan. In 1979, he founded the Avante Theater in Miami, as well as the Miami International Hispanic Theater Festival, which has been a pillar in the promotion of Hispanic theater in the United States. In addition to his work in theater, he had several roles in television and film, including appearances in the series “Miami Vice” and in films such as “Invasion U.S.A.” (1985) and “The Specialist” (1994). Sánchez died on April 10, 2025 in Miami. His legacy in theater and his contribution to Hispanic culture in the United States will be remembered by many.
