Este año se conmemora el 20 aniversario del fallecimiento de la reconocida actriz mexicana María Félix, quien dejó una huella al visitar Cuba en dos ocasiones. La actriz llamó la atención durante su primer viaje en 1949, invitada por el Presidente Carlos Prío Socarrás. Durante su segundo viaje en 1955, Félix se deslumbró, siendo contratada por los Cigarros Partagás y hospedándose en el Hotel Comodoro. Desde su habitación recibió al periodista Germinal Barral (Don Galaor) de la revista Bohemia. Durante su viaje actuó en el cabaret Montmatre, en Radiocentro, y en el Alí Bar. Además de conceder su primera entrevista para la televisión cubana a Enrique Santiesteban, también bailó chá chá chá en Tropicana, se bañó en la playa de Guanabo y visitó La Bodeguita del Medio. Este viaje de junio de 1955 fue el último que hizo La Doña a Cuba. El régimen castrista la invitó a regresar varias veces, pero nunca lo hizo. La actriz falleció el 8 de abril de 2002.

Two decades without María Félix

This year marks the 20th anniversary’s if the passing of famed Mexican actress María Félix, who left a significant imprint after visiting Cuba on two occasions. The actress called attention to herself during her first trip in 1949,  having been invited by President Carlos Prío Socarrás. During her second trip in 1955,  she dazzled, working under contract for Partagás Cigars and staying at the Comodoro Hotel. From her suite she received journalist Germinal Barral (Don Galaor) from Bohemia magazine. During her trip she acted at the Montmatre cabaret, in Radiocentro, and at the Alí Bar. Aside from granting her first interview on Cuban television to Enrique Santiesteban, she also danced chá chá chá in Tropicana, bathed at Guanabo Beach, and visited the Bodeguita del Medio. This June 1955 trip was the last one that The Lady made to Cuba. The Castro regime invited her to return on several occasions, but she never did so. The actress passed away on April 8, 2002.
