Este año se conmemora el 95 aniversario de la reconocida cantante y actriz estadounidense Eartha Kitt, quien fue una de muchas artistas extranjeras que se presentaron en Cuba durante la República. Kitt nació en Carolina del Sur, Estados Unidos, el 17 de enero de 1927 y comenzó su carrera en la Compañía de Baile de Katherine Dunham en 1943. En la cima de su éxito la década siguiente, Kitt actuó en cine y grabó numerosas canciones con su voz inconfundible. En enero de 1956, viajó a La Habana para inaugurar el Club Parisién del Hotel Nacional. Kitt también grabó un disco de mambo con Dámaso Pérez Prado y otro de música afro-cubana. La reconocida artista falleció en Weston, Connecticut el 25 de diciembre de 2008, dejando una huella significativa en la música cubana y su difusión a nivel mundial.

This year marks the 95th anniversary of the birth of renowned American singer and actress Eartha Kitt, who was one of many foreign stars who performed in Cuba during the Republic. Kitt was born in South Carolina on January 17, 1927 and began her career in the Katherine Dunham Dance Company in 1943. At the peak of her success the following decade, Kitt starred in films and recorded numerous songs with her unique voice. In January 1956, she went to Havana to inaugurate the Nacional Hotel’s Club Parisien. Kitt also recorded a mambo album with Dámaso Pérez Prado and another one of Afro-Cuban music. The renowned artist passed away Weston, Connecticut on December 25, 2008, leaving behind a significant imprint on Cuban music and its popularity around the world.
